PIPO & ELO - 2007 - An Acoustic Tribute To Dream Theater (192 kbps)

Pierre (Pipo) y Elodie (Elo) son unos hermanos franceses que realizan una serie de covers acústicos de Dream Theater, donde él se ocupa se todas las guitarras y arreglos y ella se encarga de poner su voz.

A pesar de no existir demasiados tributos a Dream Theater, sin dudas este es el mejor que he escuchado. Está muy buen hecho, ya que el hecho de que sea acústico en ningún momento le quita calidad, sino que al contrario, se vuelve bastante interesante, además contar con una voz femenina cantando las canciones de DT le da un toque especial. Sin dudas les recomiendo este tributo, que consta por una parte del disco Metropolis Part 2 de forma completa y por otra parte de varias canciones de distintos discos.

Voices: A Tribute To Dream Theater - Rapidshare - Eleventh Hour - Evil Wings

Este tributo es realizado por una serie de bandas de metal y abarca temas temas de cada uno de los discos desde el When Dream And Day Are Unite hasta el Falling Into Infinity (lo cual se podía presagiar al ver la fecha de publicación). Además cuenta con un segundo disco donde cada grupo aprovecha de promocionar un tema original.

Sin entrar en mucho detalle, les puedo adelantar que las distintas versiones están bastante cercanas a las originales, con las diferencias obvias que pueden provocar tanto el estilo propio como las habilidades instrumentales y vocales de los integrantes de cada uno de los grupos que aquí participan. Lo más novedoso es la participación de dos grupos con vocalistas femeninas, lo cual siempre le da cierto toque (al menos en mi humilde opinión).

The String Quartet Tribute To Dream Theater (320 kbps) - Rapidshare - Megaupload

Vitamin Records es un sello discográfico que se ha dedicado desde 1999 casi exclusivamente a realizar tributos en varios estilos, entre ellos el cuarteto de cuerdas (string quartet en inglés) que consta de dos violines una viola y un violonchelo. Se han realizado una infinidad de tributos a bandas y artistas de diversos estilos incluyendo pop, rock, metal, prog, punk, tecno, hip hop y un largo etcétera.

El año 2007 recién pasado le tocó el turno nada menos que a Dream Theater, antes ya se habían realizado tributos a bandas de prog como Rush, Pink Flyd, Peter Gabriel, Tool, The Mars Volta, etc. El disco cuenta con temas que abarcan todos los discos desde el When Dream And Day Are Unite hasta el Train Of Thought (selección realizada por el mismísimo Mike Portnoy, baterista de DT), todos con resultados bastante interesantes.

Dream Theater "Unofficial" Song Book (Lyrics)- No Rapidshare

These song books are intended to be a "one stop shopping" place for lyrics to Dream Theater and all Kevin Moore songs (album cuts, singles, unreleased, live and cover songs). I originally started this to save my CD liner notes wear and tear and have all the lyrics in one convenient package which is cool to print out as a booklet. Dream Theater - The Number Of The Beast (Iron Maiden) - Rapidshare)

Review:

The Number of the Beast is undeniably one of metal's all-time classic albums, so it makes perfect sense that a band like Dream Theater, whose early sound was equal parts Iron Maiden and Rush, would cover it. I think they did the album justice. You know that musicians of Dream Theater's caliber aren't going to screw up, so the focus is really on vocalist James LaBrie to seal the deal. It's just not possible to imitate the great Bruce Dickinson, but LaBrie acquits himself pretty well here. Songs like Invaders and Run to the Hills prove to be a bit much for him, but he absolutely nails Children of the Damned, Hallowed Be Thy Name and the title track. The band's lounge version of Gangland is an interesting touch. I don't love it, but I'll give them credit for shaking things up a bit. I'm still not sure why the band skipped Total Eclipse though.

Dream Theater - Master Of Puppets (Metallica) - Rapidshare

Review:

Dream Theater, arguably the world's premiere progressive metal band, started a tradition a few years ago of covering classic albums during certain tour stops. The band would play a set of their own material, take a break, and then cover one of their favorite albums in its entirety. So far the band has covered Iron Maiden's The Number of the Beast, Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon, and Metallica's Master of Puppets. Dream Theater's version of Master of Puppets is a must-have for die hard Dream Theater fans, and should prove interesting to most Metallica fans as well. It's a live performance, but the sound quality is quite good. It's probably not up to the standard of Dream Theater's traditional live releases, but it's definitely a cut above the typical bootleg recording
